Contemporary American Theater Festival Launches Board to Board Initiative
Forming relationships with regional theaters
[April, 2008] Shepherdstown, West Virginia In conjunction with their 2008 season, the Contemporary American Theater Festival will launch the Board to Board Initiative, encouraging Trustees from the Washington DC and Baltimore metropolitan areas to come together for a “new play” immersion experience. This mini-retreat will be held July 19 and 20, beginning with a lunch with Ed Herendeen, CATF Founder and Producing Director, and Peggy McKowen, Associate Producing Director. Participants will have the opportunity to see Pig Farm by Greg Kotis and The Overwhelming by J.T. Rogers, attend Under the Tent lectures, and a participate in a workshop led by Peggy McKowen. The weekend presents the opportunity to interact with CATF producers, designers and actors, and partner with CATF Trustees who share a passion for new plays, great theater, and thriving artistic communities.
“Our goal is to encourage connections between our Trustees and Trustees from regional theaters,” stated Peggy McKowen, Associate Producing Director of CATF. “As of now, we have 17 participants from Center Stage in Baltimore and the Studio Theatre and Round House Theatre in Washington, DC. We are excited to forge these relationships.”
Sally Patterson, a Board member from the Round House Theatre, said "Each summer, the new play immersion experience at CATF allows me to reflect on my role as a board member in understanding, selecting, supporting and promoting our productions at Round House Theatre. This year, the opportunity to discuss this process with board members from other theatres will greatly enhance that experience for me."
The 2008 CATF season runs from July 9 through August 3 with five adventurous plays in rotating repertory: The Overwhelming by JT Rogers, Pig Farm by Tony Award-winner Greg Kotis, Stick-Fly by Lydia Diamond, A View of the Harbor, a world premiere by Richard Dresser, and Wrecks by Neil LaBute.
