CATF SCENERY POSITIONS

Technical Director

The TD works with the Scenic Designer and the Scene Shop staff (ATD, Carpenters, Deck Managers, and Intens) to complete the scenic needs of all shows produced by CATF during the season. This includes all scenery, rigging, special effects, motion and motion control and changeover requirements. This position is responsible for maintaining the budgeting and ordering for the Scene shop. This position generates all the working drawings for the shops and coordinates the construction of each show. This person is also the point person for maintaining a safe working area in shop and on deck as the shows move through load in.

Job Requirements
-Must be able to maintain a budget using a declining balance spreadsheet or similar accounting method
-Must be able to work comfortably on a 12’ Stepladder and Genie Lift
-Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds
-Must posses competence to work safely and quickly with basic power and bench tools (Table Saw, Chop Saw, Band Saw, Drill Press, Routers, Driver/Drills, Pneumatic Fastening Tools, Abrasion Saws, Reciprocating Saw, Circular Saws, etc)
-Must be able to safely carry and handle a single sheet (4’x8’) of 3/4” plywood to perform sizing operations (rip to width, etc) without needing assistance
-Must have advanced understanding of theatrical rigging
-must have advance understanding of theater motion and control options.
-Must be able to generate and work/build from hand and computer generated draftings
-Change over Crew Member
-Strike Crew Member

CATF uses Window’s XP Pro or Vista Pro PC’s. Employees of CATF are expected to be competent in the use of standard Microsoft programs (Windows, Excel, Word, Explorer, Media Player) Specific Departments will require skills in different programs. CATF does not offer support of Macintosh Computers or systems or Linux based PCs. Employees using these computers are welcome to bring their own, but there will be no on site tech support for them, and all company work done on them must be able to interface with company PCs.



Carpenter/Deck Manager and Build Carpenter
The Carp/Deck are the primary scenic build positions for the Festival. Working under the direction of the TD and ATD, the carpentry staff will build the scenic needs for the Festival. Additional, carpenters handle rigging, motion control and effects for the spaces. These positions load in the sets after construction and painting is complete. Once the shows open, the Deck Manager positions move on to serve as the Lead Flyperson in both spaces and serve as the person who works closest with Stage Management to execute the technical running needs of the show. The Build Carpenter positions contracts run though opening weekend, but do not stay for running, changeovers, or strike. If Build carpenters are available and local enough, they can be brought back for the strike week.

Scenery Intern
The Scenery intern is an educational position for persons with basic scenery skills looking to increase their exposure to professional theater and improve their skills. This position will work the scene shop for the build period to assist in constructing the shows of the Festiva,l performing duties as assigned by the Shop Staff.

Job Requirements:
-Should have 1-2 years experience in scenery
-understand basic Rigging
-should be able to work from draftings
-be able to work on a 12 foot ladder
-Be able to lift a sheet of 3/4" plywood safely..
-Change over Crew Member
-Run Crew Member
-Strike Crew Member
