The Pursuit of Happiness by Richard Dresser is a new comedy by a festival favorite. Annie and Neil are middle-of-the-road citizens who are thrown into turmoil when their beloved daughter stubbornly decides not to go to college. A comedy of ways and means and in-betweens, The Pursuit of Happiness is a sly look at the tantalizing possibilities and chronic unease within the American Dream.

Richard Dresser’s plays include Below the Belt, Gun-Shy, Something in the Air, Rounding Third, and Augusta, all of which appeared at CATF. The Pursuit of Happiness is the second play in Mr. Dresser’s trilogy about happiness in America, with each play set in a different social class. The trilogy started with last summer’s Augusta, and concludes with A View of the Harbor. He wrote the film Human Error and the book for the Beach Boys musical Good Vibrations.
